Interview #346: Sarah VanTassel

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

q: Introduce yourself:
a: I’m Sarah VanTassel & I am a photographer living & working in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My work is
strictly analog (except when commissioned to do a wedding.) One of the reasons I was first drawn to film photography was because I didn’t want my “art” to come easy. I have to take my time and make sure everything is right before I take a shot. It has helped me become a better photographer. The way it looks & feels is quite beautiful to me. Nothing can match it.

q: What do you want to show in your photography?
a: My relationship to the life around me & the moments I feel connected with it. And, there are no words that I can use to describe the feeling
that comes in those instances, so I make photographs instead.

q: Favorite colour?
a: Ivory.

q: Photographic equipement?
a: I shoot with the following cameras: Mamiya C330, Mamiya Universal, Canon Rebel K2, and a Calumet 4x5 view camera.

q: Upcoming projects or ideas?
a: I am currently working on a series of 4x5 portraits. I haven’t worked with that camera much since I have been out of school & would love to feel proficient with it.

q: Any music to recommend?
a: Refused.
